By : mr.savapat chujam KAMPHAENG PHET ATTRACTIONS Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park is located within the old town. The ruins are divided into two areas and many of these important archeological sites are currently being restored by the Fine Arts Department. At the centre of the park there is a sand stone temple and a Sri Lankan-style chedi. The park is open to the public daily.
Kamphaeng Phet National Museum, situated behind Wat Phra Kaeo, houses an impressive collection of artifacts unearthed from excavations conducted in the area, as well as items from other regions. Included in the collection are decorative terracotta’s from old temples and Sukhothai period Buddha images.
![]() Muang Nakhom Chum is an ancient town situated beside the Ping River. An old earthen defensive city wall running parallel to the river is still visible and several ancient temples are to be found within its boundary. Kamphaeng Phet province is home to Khlong Lan National Park. There is a waterfall at the heart of the park and several hill tribe villages in the area, including those of Yao, Mhong and Karen people. Accommodation is available within the park boundaries through the Forestry Department. Each year a traditional festival takes place in Kamphaeng Phet to pay respects to the Lord Buddha. The festival of Nop Phra Len Pleng is held on the day of the full moon during the Makaha Puja period – February-March. A grand procession is organised, ending at Wat Phra Borom That Chediyaram. Kamphaeng Phet province is also famous for growing high quality egg bananas or kluay khai. Each year during September or October the Miss Bannna Festival is held and many delicious dishes and banana snacks can be sampled. |
